Chelsea Weighing Up Move For Leicester Defender Fofona

Fofona

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea is considering a move for Leicester defender Wesley Fofana as they continue their quest for a second center-back reinforcement.

With French defender Jules Kounde looking more and more likely to sign with Barcelona, the Blues are considering trying Leicester’s determination to hold onto their outstanding young center-back.

After losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively, this summer, Fofana has now surfaced as one of the newest names on Chelsea’s radar in their effort to strengthen their defense.

Although they paid £34 million to Napoli for Kalidou Koulibaly, they have had trouble finding a second defender.

In their bids to acquire Nathan Ake from Manchester City and Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, Bayern Munich was unsuccessful.

Chelsea is also interested in Milan Skriniar of Inter and Presnel Kimpembe of Paris Saint-Germain as center backs. Josko Gvardiol of RB Leipzig is another, although the Germans want to keep him.

In 2020, Fofana signed a £36.5 million contract to join Leicester. He had an outstanding first season and was named the Foxes’ young player of the year.

He shattered his leg during a preseason friendly a year ago, but he played again in March and appeared on the field 12 times in the last weeks of the season.

Leicester is in a strong negotiating position because he agreed to a new five-year contract in March that lasts until 2027.
